R.E

The Religious Education Department occupies adjacent rooms on the ground floor of the main building. All rooms benefit from an interactive white board, and the department has an artefacts display cabinet along the corridor.

Mrs Sharp took up post as Head of RE in September 2007; she had previously been Head of Department at Moorside Technology College.  RE is also taught by Mrs Armstrong, Head of Learning, Mrs Anderson (Head of Key Stage 4), Miss Barnett, Mrs Whitehead and Mr Schmidtke.

At Key Stage 3, pupils follow the South Tyneside Locally Agreed Syllabus, concentrating on Christianity and a number of other major world religions.   Learning is focused on the acquisition of knowledge and understanding and on the development of the skills of argument and debate in relation to religious and moral issues.   In Key Stage 4, all pupils follow the Edexcel Religion and Life Short Course, which provides a half-GCSE qualification complementing the Short Course in Citizenship.

Additional classes are offered for pupils in preparation for GCSE, and study has been enriched by visits to local churches and places of worship
